Pretty simple. Those with student loans should be allowed to refinance their students loans at current interest rates and pay them back under currently offered repayment plans.
With the 3/10/15 LIBOR rate at 0.69%, students are being forced to payback their government backed students loans at up to 8.5%. This is despite that these loans are non-dischargable.
We are not allowed the opportunity to refinance student loans at current interests rates -- which would not be at the LIBOR rate -- but which should be somewhere around 2% to 3.5%. If we could refinance at current rates, it would immediately save families thousands of dollars and some hundreds of thousands of dollars. This money could go to buying homes, health care, and otherwise supporting the economy.
