allow tax write-offs for the full amount of student loan interest paid per year (no limit), no matter what total income.

Created by J.R. on January 29, 2016

This petition is to allow for tax write-offs for the total amount of student loan interest paid per year, no matter how much income you earn. High income taxes are already crippling us as we try to earn a living, and now we have to try to pay our way out of debt after outrageously expensive education costs with high interest rates on our student loans from the government. The government is essentially double-dipping: They collect taxes upfront on earnings, then high interest on student loans. So we are using after-tax money to pay for government interest. The current max is $2,500 of write-offs if you make less than $60,000 a year, which is ridiculous. We pay tens of thousands in taxes yearly, then over $10,000 in student loans (interest only!), and we can't write off a dime.
