My petition to the Obama administration is to allow transgender Americans the right to be able to serve the country that they love. This is a right which is presently denied to this historically discriminated group of people. Transgender Americans face widespread discrimination in housing, employment, etc. The US armed forces can benefit from the talents and skills of gender variant individuals, and it would be a testament to America's ever broadening umbrella of diversity and tolerance. Transgender Americans should have the right to serve. The military's procedures concerning transgender Americans are outdated and tainted with bias and must change to better perfect the nation's rule on equal protections under the law. Allow them to serve as just the straights and the gays.
