Currently, even though Don't ask Don't tell was removed, allowing openly gay, bisexual, and pansexual citizens to join the Military, the Military still classifies being transgender as a mental illness, barring those who are transgender from joining the military or remaining in it. Also, those who are transsexual are barred for "physical reasons."
Obviously, these policies are unfair, as there are many transgender and transsexual people who otherwise meet or exceed Military physical/mental regulations and standards. An independent commission by a former Surgeon General found no reason for these limitations to be kept in place.
I ask President Obama to let these American citizens who are willing to fight and die for their country to serve it by joining the Military.
