I am a transgender youth. For a while now, I've wanted to join the armed forces of the United States. When I found out that the military will not allow transgenders to join the army, I was devastated. The military sees being transgender as a mental illness. I can assure you otherwise. I propose that, not only should the army see transgender people as equals and start treating us so, but to end the idea that the state of being transgender or transsexual is a mental health issue. The discrimination is only growing, and it needs to stop. I hope that the government and armed forces will come to their senses soon.
