Allow Transgender people, Transsexual people, and Those of Non-Binary Gender Identity to Serve Openly in the Military

Created by R.W. on April 05, 2014

We are very proud of the current administration's efforts in repealing and ending the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, but people with queer gender identities are still unjustly barred from serving openly in the United States military. This is a complete injustice.

The Palm Center of San Francisco State University conducted a study led by Dr. Joycelyn Elders (former US Surgeon General) and retired Rear Admiral Alan M. Steinman (of the Coast Guard and the Public Health Service) that found that there is no compelling medical reason for not allowing these people to serve. Ergo, this petition calls for the President to immediately work to end this discrimination toward those of trans or non-binary gender identities in military service and afford them the full benefits of that service.
