In light of the recent assaults on military recruiting stations, the Washington Navy Yard, and other duty stations, is apparent that the people of our military are left defenseless by prohibitions against carrying sidearms while on duty at most installations on US soil.
Therefore, We the People undersigned to this petition ask the President of the United States of America to issue and Executive Order allowing uniformed active-duty military to openly carry sidearms to, from and while on-duty at stations and posts.
To preserve the spirit of Posse Comitatus, this Order limits open carry sidearms to uniformed, active-duty personnel on duty (or going to/from), and used only in immediate defense of their post. Local law enforcement would otherwise handle crime and indirect threats as usual.
