The current Social Security system returns approx 1.23% on investments, this is horrid. US citizens should be allowed to withdraw from this program and invest thier approx 5% of income toward higher interest accounts. The American people are losing money at a rapid rate and this would allow them to save in a responsible way toward retirement. I for one feel as though I am being robbed and forbidden to invest on my own. Especially when the thousands of dollars I would invest are taken away and placed in an account that I may never get back.
