We are asking that the recent policy change regarding the prohibition of active duty personnel from getting tattoos that are visible while wearing their unifoms be recinded.
We feel that tattoos very often serve a therapeutic healing function to those who serve, and even more so to those who may have been wounded in the service of our Country. Our feeling is that patriotic American-themed tattoos are nothing to be ashamed of despite official the "reasoning" of the new regulations. What ever the image, where ever they are located on the body, patriotic tattoos are worn as a badge of honor and pride by those who get them.
There is a long history of tattooing associated with military service. This history deserves to be allowed to continue as long as we call on volunteers to serve.
