A million American Indians are not registered to vote. A million! American Indians who are registered have the worst turnout at the polls of any ethnic group. Over the last century since securing their rightful place at the ballot box in 1924, Native people have remained one of the most disenfranchised group of voters in the United States.
Jefferson Keel's campaign (Chickasaw), the president of the National Congress of American Indians, is to get the federal government to establish voter registration at Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities under the provisions of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.
