Given that there are some petitions that may attract a lot of attention but may be objectionable to the majority of U.S. citizens, people should be allowed to vote against petitions that they disagree with.
Instead of raising the signature requirement to 100,000, it may be more prudent to change the White House response requirement to 25,000 AND 67% of people are in favor of the petition. The 67% requirement would mimic the 2/3 voting requirements often used in congress and ensure that an issue has merit before requiring a response.
The "Like" - "Dislike" concept is already prevalent on the internet and its application here would be prudent.
