The minimum wage is nearly universally viewed as a destructive force. Only the likes of Dr. Paul Krugman would still site the flawed study done in the 90s by Card and Krueger. The law of supply and the law of demand ensure that this price floor will create a serious surplus of labor translating to higher unemployment. This effect hits hardest on young adults and those in the unskilled labor force that need their first job. We don't need a 'living wage' we need a wage that we negotiate with an employer, we need a chance to earn, a chance to feel the satisfaction of doing work and accomplishing a task.
Let us decide for ourselves what we want to charge for our labor. Empower us. Give us the right to waive the minimum wage, even if just for a period of evaluation, or repeal it.
