Russia helped with the creation of free United States of America. In 1917 we declared them the enemy number one - a decision that led to the ugly Cold War. Which is almost over, hopefully.
Russia doesn't want any tensions with USA. Even more - it wishes an alliance.
Alliance that will benefit both countries tremendously.
