The Common Core curriculum currently discusses slavery only in the context of the African-American narrative. This provides students with a limited definition of slavery that disregards the 20-30 million victims of human trafficking today. We petition the government to alter the curriculum to include lessons about modern-day slavery, thereby providing students with the information that they need to effect change.
As the owner of the Instagram account @endchildprostitution, I see students’ lack of knowledge about trafficking as well as their desire to end it. Please aid and educate them so they have the tools to fulfill the mission of the Declaration of Independence: create a country where we are all free.
