Alter FMLA to offer a mandated paid time for mothers of newborns and offer a maternity leave option longer than 12 weeks

Created by A.K. on January 29, 2014

Currently, the United States is one of the last countries in the world to provide some type of compensation to mothers of newborns. The US is 1 of 3 countries in the world to not provide compensation for mothers of newborns. On top of this atrocious set back for all American families, the mothers only receive 12 weeks. Majority of other industrial leading countries provide much more time than the US, which also puts America tied for the least amount of time off provided. As many Americans are grateful for the initial implementation of this act only 11 years ago, it still has a great deal of lapses that negatively impact society as a whole. I urge you to not take this request lightly, because we are talking about the well being of the children of tomorrow.
