I'm sure many factors fed in to President Lyndon Johnson declaring Father's Day in June, but modern dads would enjoy a day replete with football and the lead-up to playoff baseball, less demand for yard work, and with the kids in school a father could finally get equal craft-project booty. The day would feel more sincere if it wasn't on the heels of Mother's Day, where it seems like an afterthought, a quid pro quo that lessens both days of obligation in the minds of the children. Weather is typically still good enough for a walk in America's parks or to throw a ball in the yard and this move would renew interest in the day, just as more restaurants and business are promoting Father's Day specials on par with their partner's day. It's a clear win and I think the Father-in-Chief would agree.
