Provisions in the Affordable Care Act, known as ObamaCare, have already caused disruptions to the economy as well as changes in business practices leading to underemployment and unemployment. Specifically, the threshold between full-time and part-time employment has been changed and is no longer in line with any common-sense notion people may have.
The legislation calculates the number of full-time equivalent employees an employer has by dividing the number of work-hours paid for by the employer by 2,080 a year (so full-time employment is assumed to be a 40 hour week).
Elsewhere, the legislation defines a full-time employee as one who averages at least 30 hours a week.
The threshold should be closer to 40. Raise it from 30 to be at least 33 (or more than 4 days/shifts a week).
