Our existing voting system, commonly called "winner takes all", or "first past the post", is a simplistic yet somewhat unbalanced method of voting. It has been mathematically proven to trend heavily toward a two party system, where the majority of voters are no longer voting for the candidate they prefer, but instead voting against the candidate they want least. This is fear-based voting, and not what the United States should have a goal for.
There are several voting methods that would allow people to safely vote for the candidate they most want, instead of only voting against the candidate they fear the most. "Preferential voting" system is one example.
Changing the voting system to one deemed more "fair" will inevitably enhance or restore people's faith and hope in our great nation.
