For over two hundred years Americans have fought continuously to include more and more groups into being held as the legal equals of what we deem to be a full and true person under the law, from the fight to end slavery, to discrimination against German, Italian, and now Latin American immigrants, to the discrimination against Catholics, Jews, and Muslims. We continue to fight for equality for women, the right of a person of any sexual orientation to be legally married, the advancement of the disadvantaged, and more people of more kinds are an equal part of our society because we fight.
But these gains we've fought so long and hard for are not immune to change, and could easily be lost. Mr. President, introduce an amendment, and set our rights in the stone of American Justice.
