amend the Constitution to limit congressional terms to 3 two-year terms for the House, and 2 four-year terms for senate.

Created by M.G. on November 27, 2011

This petition, in response to the lowest ever approval rating of congress in history, is proposed to weed out career politicians who make party politics priority over the will and welfare of the people. Term limits are needed to allow new ideas into congress. This has become necessary as we've seen generational biases and out-moded ideas affect policy and civil rights issues. Career politicians fail to recognize and identify with societal changes. This type of Constitutional amendment was proposed once before in 1951 when the 22nd Amendment was ratified, limiting the term of the presidency to two 4-year terms. As the president must be subject to term limits to avoid dictatorship, so should the House and Senate.
