In the Texas v. Johnson Supreme Court case (1996), laws prohibiting flag desecration in 48 out of 50 states were invalidated it being an extension of the First Amendment right of free speech. "Symbolic speech" as it was coined by the Supreme Court, itself should be protected, but flag burning alone could be outlawed. Or sent to the states for them to decide individually. Flag burning itself is unpatriotic and causes concern for National Security. As a country we need to be united, and if you agree to be a citizen, should not be able to disrespect our nation's colors.
