The current system of "representative" government is unfair and undemocratic. The US would benefit from a system of direct democracy, similar to the Swiss model, which would give, "We the People", the authority to define and defend our rights.
Direct Democracy is the only true democracy. The chasm between public opinion and government policy is huge (and growing wider). Electing representatives to defend our rights is unfair to both the citizen and our representatives. We need to share this responsibility in order that it does not become misrepresentative.
With the advent of the internet we clearly have the tools to give everyone an equal voice where it matters most. To deny this ability is to deny the will of the People in favor of something less.
