Our political discourse is simply not discourse. It is a cold civil war. Political parties and anyone politically active have been doing whatever they needed to do in order to accomplish an agenda. Debate is not on their minds. Both Republicans and Democrats have literally been gaming the system, and the only thing that does NOT make this war is that we are mostly non-violent about it (some vandalism & assassinations). That line is dangerously close to being crossed. Our political system has turned into one bad marriage for everybody. It's time for a divorce. We can be allies, but it's wrong to force us to stay a union.
Allow states to vote on whether to secede, and use the same standards by which a Constitutional amendment must be met.
