Amend Consumer Protection Laws to Prohibit the Portrayal of Stereotypical, Biased, or Derogatory Depictions of Gender

Created by S.W. on December 12, 2014

Aggressive and degrading marketing campaigns often use female objectification, irrelevant sexualization, and shaming to evoke feelings of desire, guilt, rejection, or self-doubt. Such marketing campaigns reflect, reinforce, or create discriminatory definitions of gender that obstruct the individual's rights to liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

To protect these self-evident and unalienable rights, we urge the Executive Office to take action against unethical gender discrimination in advertising by amending the consumer protection laws of the United States to include the restriction of marketing practices that exploit the body of either sex or imply any offensive or derogatory judgment of man or woman by portrayal of stereotypical, biased, or dominant depictions of gender.
