A new $20 bill is being designed that honors Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman was a Black woman, humanitarian, and abolition, born into slavery, who escaped and helped others win their freedom. The indignity and injury she endured during her time in slavery was immense and her service to freedom and humanity was great. She fully deserves the honor of being on the front of American paper currency.
It is no fit honor for the first woman in 100 years to be featured on paper American currency to share that honor with a man. It is no fit honor for a Black American to be featured on the same bill as a slave owner, and a President who presided over the deaths of thousands of Native Americans. It is no fit honor for Harriet Tubman to be featured on the same bill as President Jackson.
