We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Amend DoD Directive 5210.56 to allow active duty service members to carry firearms for personal defense.

Created by K.V. on May 18, 2016

The servicemen and women of this country are prevented from exercising their right to self defense. This is not only an egregious violation of the constitution, but an insult to those who protect that constitution. The specific goal of this petition is to protect the member's right to bear arms, while transiting to and from a military installation. Our men and women in uniform are regularly told to not wear uniforms or display decals indicating their service to avoid becoming a target for terrorist or criminal activity during their stateside commute. While this is a smart practice to implement, an equally smart practice would be to allow them (if they so choose) to carry a firearm on their person in accordance with state and local local laws.
