Amend DOT Regulations to allow Light Electric Vehicles on All roads except Freeways.

Created by Y.B. on October 26, 2011

Department of Transportation regulations disallow the use of Light Electric Vehicles on roads with speed limits that exceed 35mph. This restriction limits the usefulness of such vehicles to the detriment of the population. I can walk, ride a horse, ride a bike, ride a small moped, low cc motor cycle on these roads, but not a Light Electric Vehicle. This is a restriction of trade and public choice as to how we address our local transportation. I can't drive to the Metro Station in an LEV because part of the way there is on roads that exceed 35mph speed limit. However, I can walk, ride a bike, skate, or take a horse and buggy on these same roads.

It is time to end the prohibition of LEV's on Public Non Freeway Roads.
