Amend Executive Order 13562- Recruiting and Hiring Students and Recent Graduates to extend the period of time for young college students to apply for the program. Limiting the time period as 2 years after graduation does not allow sufficient time for those in critical majors such as engineering, science, medical, and technology to become public servants. Especially when Veterans preference block their ability to be selected for positions at the entry grades they may qualify for. Change the time period for application to 5 years or allow exceptions to the Veterans preference laws for critical hard-to-fill occupations in professional series positions at a time when a large number of federal employees are at or beyond the retirement age.
