A High School credential is required by the U.S. Department of Education, as mandated by Congress, for all FAFSA applicants to be eligible to receive financial aid. I propose that the FAFSA application be amended so that prospective students in need of a High School credential in order to qualify for financial aid, be given the option at the time of their application to borrow the funds to pay for a GED test, so they can earn a GED and qualify for financial aid. The GED test fee will become part of their aid package.
