This petition intends to give an ex-felon-
(who has been a productive member of society for at least the last 7 years)
-the opportunity to rent a place to live without being discriminated against.
We the people deem it necessary to provide equal housing opportunities for any productive member of society. A certain time limit should be amended to the Fair Housing Act of 1988 to require that an ex-offender become a "protected person" so long as they have had no criminal trouble in at least 7 years.
The severity of the crime should also be taken into consideration when choosing the time period.
