This petition urges Obama and his administration to champion legislation that will amend the Fair Labor Standards Act to eliminate the labor exemptions that "exempt" certain classes of employees from overtime pay. This petition also urges the elimination of the implied class system in business that relegates hourly employees to a second class status as compared to "salaried" employees.
This petition believes that technology advances have changed the playing field and allowed employers to increase the uncompensated time for employees that are not eligible for over-time pay. Additionally the elimination of the exemptions would spur the creation of more jobs as business would benefit in hiring more employees versus paying more overtime.
