The Hatch Act of 1939 prohibits employees in the Executive Branch of Federal Government, except the President, Vice President, and high-level officials of that branch, from engaging in partisan political activity.
During the course of Maryland's Gubernatorial election, the President and First Lady gave endorsements to Democratic Candidate Anthony Brown, thus exercising federal influence in a state election. This cannot be ignored.
I call for an immediate review of the Hatch Act to result in an amendment barring the President, Vice President, and First Lady from participating in partisan political activity while holding public office.
