amend H.R. 218 (a.k.a. LEOSA Act) to include Correctional Facility Staff across the United States.

I am beginning this petition solely on the idea that Correctional Staff should be included on the LEOSA Act (a.k.a. H.R. 218). We as Correctional Staff deal with very violent criminals on a day to day basis.Nearly all of these violent offenders will one day be released back into the communities. As a Correctional Officer we receive threats of physical harm to ourselves and our families nearly every day. With the recent attacks on Law Enforcement it is obvious that we need to protect ourselves as well. Not being included into the LEOSA Act makes it that much more difficult ultimate for us to properly defend ourselves and our loved ones. The recent amendment includes Active and Retired Military Police who see much less violence while at home than we as Corrections Staff do.
