Amend H.R. 933 to remove Section 735 (the so-called "Monsanto Protection Act").

Created by L.G. on March 23, 2013

Recently, both the House and Senate passed H.R. 933 (Department of Defense, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013), a continuing budget resolution which includes the House Agricultural Appropriations Bill.

A provision (Section 735) was included in H.R. 933 that strips the rights of federal courts to halt the sale and planting of genetically engineered crops during the legal appeals process. This provision has been dubbed the "Monsanto Protection Act." The provision forces the USDA to immediately approve any permits for continued planting that the industry requests, putting industry completely in charge. We ask the Obama administration to push to amend H.R. 933 to exclude this provision or veto the bill
