Many people employeed in companies with union contracts choose to not join or pay dues to the union. The union is still obligated by law to represent those non members in grievance processing and other matters. This representation often requires the union to spend large somes of money. Arbitrations can cost thousands of dollars in fees paid to ourside participants.
The money comes from dues payed members for their representation. The dues paid by members shouldn't be transfered to the benefit of non members. If the Union must continue to represent the non member, then union's should be allowed to bill non members for the cost of any unusual time or expense incurred for their benefit
