To call on Congress to amend or repeal the Second Amendment. The language is outdated and contradictory. Our country no longer is dependent on a well-regulated Militia to secure our free state, and the language claims a qualification to justify the need to protect the right to bear arms while implying there should be no qualifications on the right itself.
Two hundred years of development of military forces and advancements in firearm technology make the current language obsolete. The signers of this petition call for an amendment to the Second Amendment to better reflect national defense capabilities and needed limitations on personal firearm ownership.
