The second amendment, as written, does not apply in today's modern society. The threats people faced in the Eighteenth century no longer exist today, therefore the 2nd Amendment needs to be re-written to reflect the realities of gun technology and their place in a stable democratic society. Federal gun laws need to exist to restrict the types of weaponry allowed for personal ownership to that which is appropriate for common use such as hunting, self-defense, and sport shooting.
