As all combat roles have now been open to women in the U.S. military, it is now time to amend the Selective Service Act to mandate that all American women between the ages of 18-26, and all naturalised and permanent resident alien women between the ages of 18-26, be required, by penalty of law, to register for the Selective Service System. Failure to do so should require the same denial of benefits men face per law.
The Clinton administration did review this in 1994, however, it was determined at the time to be unfair as women were prevented from combat roles. But as SecDef Ashton Carter stated this week, all combat roles are now open to women. Therefore, to further solidify gender equality throughout the Republic, it must be required of American women to register with Selective Service.
