amend the tax code to allow a mileage deduction for people who ride their bicycles to work.

Created by R.O. on September 22, 2011

For the people who ride their bicycles to work, the ability to deduct the mileage would serve to reward and assist them in their efforts. This kind of a tax credit would encourage many, many more people to ride their bikes to work. This would have a positive effect on the environment, air quality, health and fitness, mental health, energy conservation (gasoline, etc.)and the economy. More bikes on the road would improve safety for bicyclists on the roads as they would be more prevalent and expected. Communities would develop bike paths and lanes in answer to the need, and even people who ride for pleasure would benefit. The tax credit could also benefit employers in some way to add benefits for them if their employees ride their bicycles to work. This is a win win.
