Amend the Telecommunications Act of 1996 with stronger Media Ownership rules. Fix the "Marketplace of Ideas"

Created by C.S. on January 18, 2016

Before 1996, media companies could only own a very small portion of the broadcast and/or print media in any given market, and were also limited to how much broadcast media they could own nationwide. This created a great diversity of news voices, reporters, and opinions; something this country is severely lacking right now. This is the essence of the "Marketplace of Ideas." We used to fill the marketplace with as many viable options as possible, and let the people decide what ideas worked for them. Right now the marketplace has very few ideas, and we can see that in our political discourse. If you look, since 1996, our discourse has become more vitriolic and full of hate and misunderstanding, at a seemingly parabolic rate. Increase the number of respected pubic voices. Start the Change.
