Corporations and special interest groups are legally able to donate as much money as they please to whichever campaign they choose, through the 1st, 5th, and 14th amendment rights, resulting most recently from the Supreme Court decision in the 2010 case, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. This decision regarding corporate personhood not only allows room for oligarchical corruption, but is a direct and inherent threat to the "democracy" we supposedly value so greatly. Monetary donations have become so essential to the winning of political campaigns, that with a politician's promise to cater to the interests of a certain corporate superpower, before those of the people, millions are donated and elections are secured. The peoples rights must be protected. The corruption must end.
