"To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan" Abraham Lincoln
I respect our 16th president immensely. Abraham Lincoln's words are thoughtful, caring & of no small comfort for service members seeking care & understanding. Indeed, far more down-to-earth issues, concerns & struggles confront our service members especially women. Though I never served in uniform, I have been a part of the military community all my life, supported it & fought for my small part of it. I am recommending that the VA motto be thoughtfully amended as follows:
“To care for them who shall have borne the battle and for their families"
These words would include, respect & reflect the service of all women in the armed forces while honoring all vets & Lincoln's mission & intent.
