In 2006 during a ‘Lame Duck Session’ Congressional House Republicans crafted ‘back room’ legislation instituting a law ‘limiting’ the US Postal Services’ reach from getting into any other line of business. That ‘deliberate’ initiative directly limited the scope of the US Postal Services’ ability to hold a competitive edge in the US and international shipping markets with other competitors like Fed EX, DHL, UPS and United Arab Shipping. The law passed by republicans stipulated the US Postal Service allocate funds for its employees for Healthcare and retirement benefits 75 years in advance - within a 10 year window. That decision limited the institution’s ability to invest, reinvent, hire employees and grown with changing national and global markets... putting the institution in a peril.
