America's economy is being sapped by the enormous proportion spent on energy, especially fossil fuels from abroad. At the same time, we are letting China and other countries race ahead in the energy technologies of the next generation, such as wind and solar; their investments will leave American companies and technologies unable to compete in the future energy economy. America must develop a coherent and concrete energy policy that invests in renewable energy technologies and businesses, in order for America to have a competitive economy and create jobs domestically rather than abroad. In addition to the economic benefits, this will also work to reduce pollution and climate change, and will improve national security through lesser economic dependence on volatile regions of the globe.
