It is my firm belief that the American people should be able to weigh in on heavily disputed topics of law and policy, such as the ability to picket at funerals or legalization of marijuana for recreational use. The citizens, who heavily outnumber government officials and are more openly affected by the policies in place, should vote on election years. Families shouldn't have to watch people disrespect a passed loved one nor should we have to openly have these arguments of legalization of recreational drugs that plague the media. Why not just allow the responsible citizens of this country to vote on these policies during an election period and let the majority of Americans decide what substances should be illegal or legal and what actions are deemed culturally acceptable or demeaning.
