There are about 8.5% of Americans unemployed, 20% under-employed, and a large percent of Americans struggling paycheck to paycheck, most unable to provide health care or the very basic sustenance for their family. YET, the cries of the American family go unheard by elected members of congress. The average national wage in America is $43,000. The average salary of elected congressmen is $174,000 which does not include the federal health insurance plan and the federal retirement plan. This large salary does not include the $3,343,900 each senator and $1,522,100 each representative receives for staff and office needs. BUT WAIT, they receive millions more for mobile and home state offices. It is time elected officials can make no more than the average American! Maybe then they will understand.
