The cause of death for Aaron Swartz is democide: death by government. His death during prosecution has brought to light the baseless prosecutorial overreach of US Attorney Carmen Ortiz, who was appointed by Obama.
For downloading academic articles, a non-crime, Swartz was facing felony charges carrying up to 35 years in prison. The Obama admisitration must disown 35 year penalties for victimless non-crimes.
Politically, it must distance itself from the actions of Ortiz in prosecuting Swartz. It should positively respond affirmatively to the calls for Ortiz' removal and for pardoning Swartz posthumously. Moreover, it should embrace Swartz' cause to resist internet censorship; abandon, and disavow any and all plans or contingency plans for an internet 'kill switch.'
