Appeal to the Conscience of our Nation's Media

Created by C.C. on December 16, 2012

We petition the Obama Administration to make a direct, frank, and strong appeal to our nation's media outlets to put in place a conscientious agreement to refrain from reporting the names, images, or other identifying details of the perpetrators who commit the kind of acts that were committed at Sandy Hook Elementary on December 13, 2012.

This is the same agreement that already exists for suicide attempts, and the same decorum should apply to mass murders. If public knowledge of the perpetrator's name is not deemed necessary by investigative authorities to aid in their capture, then there is no reason to make them a celebrity.

We request an immediate public appeal and, if an agreement is not communicated by news outlets, an inclusion of the appeal in the next State of the Union address.
