The issue with school violence is not guns. I am neither a gun enthusiast nor a gun abolitionist. Timothy McVeigh proved that terrorism can be accomplished without guns and the DC snipers proved it can be accomplished without automatic/semiautomatic weapons.
Gun control will make some feel good, just as limiting alcohol sales will do the same. If we would stop publishing the manifests or trials or the perpetrators, we will remove their motive.
There is no 'war on school children.' Suicidal individuals can kill themselves in anonymity, or kill innocent children and become celebrities for weeks.
When the television stations stopped showing fans running around the field during a game, fewer people did it. Just as we don't highlight the suicide bomber, we shouldn't highlight the kill.
