Many times the people who commit mass killings do so in order to gain infamy. We as a culture have grown accustomed to learning the names of serial killers and mass murderers, when really it has no use. By taking the persons name out of the media and penalizing any one who willingly publishes it, take away a key tool that these people use to become infamous. Similar actions have been taken against people who have tried to commit suicide by police on television.
The focus should be on the victims, their loved ones, and the healing that needs to take place in order to move on in their lives. By using the criminals name we as a society give them a certain power. Lets take that power away.
exceptions should include those directly effected by the crime and not hindering an investigation.
